Control...in a guild, the leader and officers need control to maintain order, and to allow the guild to progress efficiently and effictively. So I'm wondering, what kind of control would you all like to see a Guild leader have? Obviously booting, recruiting, promoting, and all that good stuff. What about a potential chat ban for ill-tempered players (short lived) in the guild chat. Perhaps you can exile a member for failing to follow certain key guidelines (by vote of officers and GL) for a day or two from the guild, leaving them in a temporary limbo where they can't join a new guild or quit. I know everyone wants to see the GL have maximum control on what the officers can do down to every last privelage. But should the customization come by rank or by individual and rank (i.e. all officers can post a ban up to one hour on player chat, but Johnny Swordsman, who is an officer, is allowed to impose a longer ban time, up to 2 hours, because he is the GL's most trusted officer). Replies? Comments? Ideas?

Personally in our guild if something reaches the point of deciding rather or not someone should have a chat ban..... We ( one of the officers or GL) send a tell to the person and have a small discussion on what the problem is and remind them of our guild charter and rules. After that point if such actions conitue then it is discussed by the officer and said person is removed from the guild for breaking guild rules.
If you are talking about chat banning someone just because you dont like thier topic of conversation well no offense but grow up. We are a mature guild and sometimes conversations can range a wide variety of topics as such. Normally if the topic at hand offends someone they have one of two options. Ignore it and go about thier gameplay or politely ask for the topic to be changed. We have found that if your willing to be polite even when it involves things you dont like you get much better results. As I said we are a mature guild.
We are not a very strict guild and only have a few rules but we expect those rules to be followed. Like any guild every once and a while we may come across an issue with someone who as joined, but rarely is it to the point we feel action is needed to be taken other than a private tell to them.
Guess what I am saying is I really dont feel that that kind of control is needed in a game. What is needed is for people to learn hwo to better communicate. I doubt this feature would ever cause an issue with us as I do not think the guild would approve of its use period. I can ,however, see this causing more problems for people in other guilds than it would fix. You start chat banning folks and people going to start getting very upset if they are the one banned when a tell would of served the purpose much better and would fo still allowed them to chat with the guild.

My only reasoning for the chat ban feature was in the instance that you have a particularly rude new member. Sometimes people are inclined to straighten up before you have to kick them out, and sometimes a quick talk isn't quite enough. But I see where you're coming from, if someone's just that bad, they're better off kicked out.

Well like I said my guild is a mature guild. I believe new members have to be 25 years old min to even join. I would have to relook at our charter. So some things are just expected on a behavoir level. But also as I stated normally when we have a problem we send a private tell to them and will happily discuss whatever issues or if need be will even bring other officers into the conversation if the issue merits it. For us we have found 9 times out of 10 this resolves the issue. On the occassions it doesnt it normally winds up to be a mutal agreement that our guild and the player in question are probably not a good fit for one another and try to end the realtionship with one another on good terms if at all possible.
While I see your point I just, myself, do not believe it to be neccessary as you yourself just pointed out. If they are that bad right off they are most likely not the kind of person you want to keep around anyhow.

I'd have to say that just the standard level of control is necessary.
If a player is out of line, someone just needs to talk to them privately and if it doesn't clear up then you boot them.
I would personally rather the developers concentrated more on the actual game play content then designing custom applications for the guild.
Some bells and whistles are good but i don't think we need behavior control applications in guilds as that can be solved by a /boot <player_name>

Even though I haven't played EQ2 or Darkfall I've heard and read both guild systems are probably the best in the business.
MMORPG recently reveiwed Darkfall's guild interface:

I think incorprating forums into the guild system is going a bit overboard, but I really like the depth of Darkfall's guild features including your very own KoS List.
