I’m expecting to see the standard animals (insert basically WoW tamable animal list).
I hope we see large lizards and snakes , drakes, nitemares, and unicorns more magical beast.
What other things do you think would be a good addition.
Tamable animals that you can use as mounts.
Gear like barding for fighting and riding animals to customize your pet. I know I hated everyone having the exact same looking pets in WoW and LOTRO.

Depending on how much variety there is in the world, as i said more options the better. I would imagine, though, it would be limited to natural creatures at launch or at the start of the avatar's career. Perhaps they complete quests to learn the ways of taming magical and other beasts?

I would prefer that than to just have them be able to train whatever they come across. Stick the dogs and cats to start with and work your way up.I would imagine, though, it would be limited to natural creatures at launch or at the start of the avatar's career. What I would really like to see in game, (expansion possibilty) is for the player to be able to "enter" the body of his/her pet and while their own is frozen in place, control the movements of their pet. Great for reconnaisance and exploratrion and if done correctly, could be also employed to attack using the basic or enhanced skills of their master.
Ever wish you could experience what a falcon does as it descends at from over half a mile up in the sky at a rate of over 200 mph? Now that would be trippy !!!
(Opps used the word trippy....must have had a Pulp Fiction flashback moment Lol)
As far as dragons go, if ever implemented as pets I really hope the developers consider a concept along the lines of a quest to obtain a baby dragon egg, and when and if sucessful, the egg would need to be hatched, and the dragonling feed and raised from a wee one to teenager, to adulthood over some pre-ordained in game time period.
I think to own a dragon, should engender a larger responsibility than say owning a common, everyday house cat. To address size it should not be monsterous but large, and for colors perhaps that could be dictated by the food or gems it could be feed.
Would\should the upkeep of a dragon also require maintenance of a dragon "hoard" ala Horizons?

Raptor and T-RexWell, there are your common bears and lions, tigers, weasels, wolverines, and war boars etc. But what about eagles, falcons, ravens and crows and their feathered friends?

but I doubt this will be implemented. so I'll just join everyone else in hoping for a large variety of pets that can be used to good effect for both combat and transportation.

I love the idea of cultivating a dragon egg that you find, or get as a quest reward somehow; proper studying can yield an elite pet. I like the aspect that everything will be cumulative including your pets, hopefully there wont be linear pet skills and just your garden variety pet models. I also dont have a problem with it taking a long time to achieve, 6 months or more, whatever. In addition if your ranger is going to be the only class with a true pet that develops in as much depth as your character you must be able to take control over it and use it's attacks/skills from it's perspective, with your character still helping out in some small way.
Raising a pet sounds right! I love the idea of bringing a young pet up to be a companion, or mount. I also thought as a profession raising or training a pet would be fun.

The ability tree will allow you to spec into your desired role and make you that much better at what you enjoy the most.
It really is one of the most versatile classes so far and I encourage you to try it out. I think you will still find it quite enjoyable, even without the pet!

So, what does everyone think of the NEW Ranger? Well, with the pet part taken away, it's half what it was...I recently heard about the game, and that was really what first attracted me. As I was testing I heard in chat that it was changing. I looked around for the specific changes--but couldn't find a post on it. But after reading the new description of the Ranger, I find I no longer have any particular feeling to play any of the classes available.
I do like a great deal about the game though and am still going to play, but with no favorite class, I don't know how long I'll stay....to reiterate--I'm really disappointed in the Ranger changes, in case that wasn't clear

I guess this is testament to how we are all different. I didn't have any interest...at...all....in the old Ranger.
Now? It is the class I will play at launch. I have one to lv 16 right now in beta (yay no NDA!), and it took me by surprise, I thought I was going to go healer class.
Heck, my brtoehr and I, who have a static duo, are BOTH going to be rangers, one speccing Protection, one speccing lifefore (dang I love this game).
Anyway, I love that this is a utility type class that also has a little protection, healing and dps (ranged and melee). At its base, the ranger can do many things, just not overly well. But the variety allows you to change on the fly.
Then you can still choose a specialty. I noticed on the top of the healing tree, there are a lot of serious healing abilities!
In short, I NEVER play ranger, hate that they have either become ranged DPS specialists or pet classes in MMOs. That doesn't match my history with them (in D&D they start quite utility and you can featthem toward ranged DPS if you want, but you can do many other things as well). In fact, this ranger feels more like a traditional (pre-mmo-bastardization-of-the-ranger) than I have seen in a while.
Awesome!

They have confirmed that one of their future classes is a pet class (though I guess anything can change). I just remember that they said that when they changed the Ranger to its new conception.
