I am currently a Mage lvl34 and have fought all my battles using a magic wand, I carry a staff onloy because of the increased spell power (+72) that it provides.
My skill rating is 30/170, and has not increased in any way, despite being the only weapon I have used in all my hundreds of battles. I believe I saw, once upon a time in these forums, that this was a recognized problem and would be addressed.
If this is so, what's taking so long?
If not, why not?

I just checked on the wand skill for you and I see it functioning as it should. If you keep your wand auto attack on and use it in between spells it will level, just not as quickly as other weapon skills that are more actively used. Still, 30 is definitely low for your level. Have you been hitting enemies drastically higher or lower than your level?

Also, does your wand skill have a green bar next to it on your skills tab of the character sheet, or is the bar red?

I have not been hunting opponents more than 2 lvls higher or lower. Too high is just asking to get creamed, and too low doesn't yield any points.
The bar on my skill chart is green.

I didn't add this to my last reply because I didn't know what "auto attack" was. I checked the library, to no avail. Perhaps you could enlighten me?

Auto attack is when you select your target and hit the attack key. Minus all the special attacks/spells you can use.

so you select target. Hit your ranged Attack key to start fireing the wand. The wand will "auto attack" between the spells you cast.

I must be some kind of idiot! I cannot find any "attack key" in the library or the key bindings. What have I missed in this game?

There is an Icon of a wand in your abilities list. Take that and put it on your hotbar and hit that to "auto attack" the mob until you press the button again or it dies. I think the skill is called shoot or something.

EDIT: And I actually went up one skill point to 160 wand skill last night so I know it is functioning atleast on me.

The little bar with squares on it where your spells/skills etc reside. It's a Hotbar because it houses Hotbuttons used to active said spells and abilities.

Many thanks to all who helped me thru this maze! At last my wand skill has improved fro 30 to over 100.
