The Humans inhabit the continent of Asheroth, while the Talrok command Kujix. There are many other races to be discovered, though these two are the ones you will see first.

Asheroth races believe in life, nature, strength, and control. The Kujix races believe in death, elemental magic, power, and dominance.

While some of the races are considered opposite (such as the Humans and Talrok), some of the races are completely unique.

-Sure, announce that *after* i post all those unread 'Speculation Symposium' threads...

Thanks for the confirmation. Now i can hope for a detailed character customization system for my human to look as gnarled, beaten, and weathered as possible.

A side question, will their be detailed information as to the structure of politics/governments for both sides or is it something that is not detailed to any major degree in the game for faction/quest/story purposes?

Jergis, feeling inquisitive this afternoon

Greetings Jergis!

The beauty of Alganon is its growth potential. There is a lot of history and lore being developed for the game, including the politics of the world :). What we will be doing very soon is a "Community Q&A" release. We will collect all of these questions and put them into official response news posts.

Exactly! We're doing this on purpose! We are specifically designing Alganon to allow us to add features and content in small chunks. Why? Well, I'll use the two races as an example:

When we release the Humans and Talrok, we can get players (namely, you) into the game and have them experience, first hand, the lore of Alganon. These players will develop favorite quests, favorite zones, favorite NPCs, etc.

We can then use this info to alter the design of the next race. If, for example, the player base loves the NPCs that are bloodthirsty and deceitful, then we can alter the design of the next race we release to be bloodthirsty fiends. If players avoid the bloodthirsty quests like the plague, we can make the next race more heroic and virtuous.

If we designed them now, we wouldn't have that information at our disposal. We'd have to work on our best guess or just make the game the way I want it, and cross our fingers and hope you like it, too... but that's not how we work here.

We're not making Alganon just for me, we're making it for "all MMOers."

... and that includes you.

We want to design a game you will love, not make you love the game we designed.

So, we need to get you in the game, having fun and making decisions, as a Human or a Talrok, so that we can use that information to make the future races even better.

In other words: The beauty of Alganon is its growth potential.

While each side, the Asheroth or the Kujix, is governed by an Emperor, the true political conflicts arise between the deities, with mortals often choosing sides in an attempt to garner favor.

The temples seem to have the most power, it is much more likely for a deity or a temple leader to call upon you to perform a task than it is to get a command from the Emperor. This is mostly due to the sheer power of the deities. If the deities wished to change the politics of mortals, they can easily do so. When mortals wish to change to politics of the deities, it is much, much harder. (Also: When a mountain-sized being made of living fire tells you to do something, you tend to do it.)

The Asheroth and Kujix are not the only political entities, they are just the two largest factions, and the ones whose destinies will most influence the world of Alganon. There are smaller groups, some of which seek to overthrow the dominant powers.

Hopefully that answers the question while still leaving plenty for you to uncover and learn in game.

-Howdy and thanks for the replies. With the deities really holding the majority of the political sway, i'll be anxious to see if there is tension between church and state for priorities of the populace.

Thanks again, looking forward to more as it comes.

I love it how you're seriously going to take player consideration into account for every update. The thing is, what happens if the player community is divided between liking bloodthirsty and non-bloodthirsty monsters? Players will always have different interests, and finding a means to include them all certainly won't be easy. On a different note, thank you for explaining a bit more of each race. I already have decided what I wanted to play as, but this gave me some more information. I'd really like to know more about the specific classes like prophet and warden, as they appear to be mages like the magus. How exactly do they differ?

I agree that it is very hard to please everyone, if not impossible.
Not only this but only a small number of players for a game actually come to the forums to talk about or share ideas for the game. I would certainly love to see some sort of in game polling system in place for times when decisions are just too close to tell or the people on the forums are not your target crowd. Even simple questions like what would you like to see more of? solo content, raid, group, small group, crusades, quests, instances etc etc. this is the type of question that every player should have an opinion on, yet would be something that quite likely would not have a clear cut answer. Putting a poll like this up on the forums though would be ineffective becuase your very casual player is less likely to come to the forums thereby having less of a say in the direction the game could take.
I'm hoping the library will help bring awareness to alot of the players who didn't look further than in game before just what goes on around them.
Adrios - Syndic (Soldier), Kadden (Mage); Hokk - Thrawn (Ranger); Toskala - Nelina (Healer)
Family - Mitthrawnurodo (Talrok)

Hmmm...
I smell God-wars coming hehehe

The Great Dieties choosing their champions to foreword their cause, granting their blessings apon the mere mortals with gifts and magic, let the land shudder and the power of the immortals are felt through their Chosen...Fires will rage, blood will be spilt, Gods shall be elevated and Gods shall be thrown down.....tis truly the Age of Legends!

Yes yes I like to rant...grant me my small entertainments

-Players, as DA put it, are your greatest asset and your biggest pain in yer ass. We know what we think we want, but that changes daily. They're doing good so far, let's see what they have for us down the pike.

I wonder if there will be some kind of conflict between Asheran and Kujix. From the introduction of the Asheran it appeared they view Kujix as enemies.

It would be nice if the next race was more "business" and not care about right or wrong but if they make a profit in the war.
