Client Patch 2.5.21 (Client version 2.5.21.2443)

This patch is an interim release to update/activate PvP quests, allow more fluid Renown gain and implement several bug fixes.

New with 2.5.21

  • New PvP quests have been added for the War of Conversion. The quest chains are offered from many NPCs scattered throughout every major quest hub and are an excellent way to gain Renown alongside Towers and PvP fighting. The first PvP quest chain is available immediately at Character Level 10/Renown Level 1 and the other PvP quests unlock as you advance to higher Renown Levels.
  • Those who began the Rising Tide PvP quest chain during the Arena event and did not finish it will now find it can be completed again.
  • Towers now award Renown Points upon capture.
  • Towers now give a buff to players that are defending them.
  • A few Tower Captains/Primaries now have names. If you have a quest and need to interact with one of these NPCs and the tower is controlled by the opposite faction, you will need to recapture the tower to complete your quest.
Bug Fixes
  • Due to a display issue with the Ability Tree, Abilities for all characters have been reset and Ability points refunded.
  • Closing the spam reporting window without submitting the ticket will no longer cause an infinite loading screen the next time the window is opened.
  • Champions/Reavers - Aftershock slows targets correctly now.
  • Mystics/Cabalists - Idol of Faith now has its cooldown displayed and no longer consumes a second one during the cooldown.
  • Using the Drink of Improved Aim now applies the correct buff.
  • Using the Bloodthirsty Brew now applies the correct buff.
  • Mul'Tah's Flute is now sorted into the proper section of the Auction House.
  • Fixed a typo in the tooltip of Cavalier's Justice.
  • Fixed a couple mobs that were spawning underground.
  • Kendix Marr (Mount Vendor in Xanjuix Karr) now opens his vendor window when interacted with.
  • Added the vendor tag to the nameplates of some vendors that were missing it.
Quest Fixes
  • Black and Red is now completable.
  • Spy vs. Spy is now completable.
  • Artifacts A-ton now has two rewards to choose from.
  • Yarak the Fraud quest now mentions returning to Calculator Dovrain.
  • Picking Up the Pieces now can only be started after completing Sacred Metal.
  • Fixed several typos with various quests.
  • The quest, Valuable Knowledge, can now be accepted from Peacekeeper Heartfall after completing Essence Thieves.
  • Job: Warfiend Karr no longer has the same description as Job: The Trouble With Nidgits.

I'm currently drinking a Pepsi. Doesn't matter when you read this, it's most likely true.

Yay even more buffs for Tower Defenders ... As if they'd be the ones who'd need it at the moment.

Aside of the fact that they already have the additional firepower of the npc which respawn like machinegun fire they also get a buff which does ... no clue what but whatever it is, it won't fix the current stalemates which occur when people start defending towers and the attackers just sit back till everyone logs out.

nvm this ... it's only a +10% (6 renown + 10% is still 6 most likely ... so, wayne) renown buff ...

And now people can PvE to earn their PvP ranks which allows them to pay for PvP even faster :D yay ... i think i should quit the game while i'm just pissed and before i start to hate it ...

//update ... Just wondering, how many so called PvP Quests are there suppsed to be ?
So far, i only found a single Questline, which had me run from one NPC to another, including the visitation of towers and whatsoever (no PvP involved at all) and in total i got like 2.000ish renown (which is coincidentally pretty much what you need to get out of renown Rank 1) and hit Rank 2, where Battle Durability starts to kick in :D

The Tower Defender buff is quite helpful towards Renown gain when you start getting up in Renown Levels. Remember, instead of the 6 Renown you keep mentioning the number scales upward depending on Renown Level and other already-discussed factors. Once you get a few Renown Levels under your belt and others do the same, the gained Renown from that buff can add up when fighting off a group or two. Of course, you get a lot more Renown from actually taking towers than defending them.

The PvEing you mentioned is also tied to PvP. How much you have to fight depends on how many towers are capped by the opposite faction and the PvP aspect gets more pronounced as you go. These new questlines (two of them per race with over a dozen new quests involved, including new crafting quests for high level PvP crafters) set the stage for the upcoming Keeps content rather nicely as well as allow people to gain a couple Renown Levels alongside their usual PvP/Tower capturing. If people get into it, you'll see quite a bit of PvP come out of these.

Well, in my opinion you should rather reward the defenders with additional Renown for PvP kills in defended Towers than the Defenders.

The Defenders already have the Guards on their side, and as mentionedin another thread, those guys hurt like fking trucks ... even more than the majority of the regular level 50 players out there (can't keep up with Reaver/Champs tho).
So, why reward people even more so for defending towers ?

Especially since they'd most likely earn Shitloads more Renown for simply letting the opponents take the tower and afterwards take it back which also has no risks of losing Battle Durability.

Did i already menition, that i dislike the Battle Durability from the bottom of my heart?

Also, as mention somewhere else already, towers need to become a slightly bit more spacious to actually allow for PvP it's impossible to fight someone in those cramped staircases, especially with the quick respawning guards.

I have added a new addition to the Patch Notes:

"Due to a display issue with the Ability Tree, Abilities for all characters are being reset on Friday (3/4/11). We're shooting to have this completed by 5pm PST. You will be refunded all Ability points on all roles."

We have a fix in the works to prevent this display issue from happening again. I just wanted to update everyone and let you know that this is coming later today. This will require the servers to come down briefly. The upside to all this - free respecs!

EDIT: We're done! Everyone should have all Abilities reset and Ability points refunded. I moved the Ability reset to the "Bug Fixes" section of the Patch Notes.

1) Will you do this when you start tweeking/balancing classes or any major content change ?
2) Why not allow a guild to claim a tower so the guards have their name and thus spam that guild when it gets attacked? Have you guys thought about guard levels from 45-50 ? Maybe having a healer, archer, magus combo as the guards and scale the respawn timer down a tad ? Dark Ages guards that were claimed by a guild you could tell them, crowd control, or dual wield, or protection or damage and that would be their role if invaded. I dont know if thats too complex for the direction your going but its still a suggestion along with somehow guilds gaining renown for people getting kills, etc.
That way you could have a GM offer perks to his guildmates for pvp or pve for certain things to help the renown level increase.

Ability resets/refunds? We've done that in the past with major class changes, and should such content change again we would definitely weigh the option.
