QUEST ONLINE RELEASES ALGANON™ AS FREE-TO-PLAY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Phoenix, AZ – (PRWEB) - August 10th, 2010 – Quest Online, LLC, today announced that Alganon, its Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game is going purely Free-To-Play (F2P).
After almost four years of development and a much publicized false start in December 2009, under new experienced leadership and guidance, Alganon was finally completed and officially launched at the end of April 2010. The game client was sold for $19.95 – with no monthly subscription commitment – and supported by a robust and extensive micro-transaction system.
The new Alganon Free-To-Play business model removes the final barrier of entry to this epic and fun fantasy based MMO game. Starting on Friday August 13th 2010, gamers who don't already own Alganon will be able to download it from http://www.alganon.com and play for free.
“Like all MMO games, Alganon has had its share of ups and downs in a rapidly changing industry in which the choice of MMO games is increasing rapidly; all competing for the same pool of gamer dollars.” said Derek Smart, President of Quest Online, LLC. “Since its official completion and launch at the end April, we have seen the number of Alganon subscriptions grow steadily.”
“With the upcoming release as well as some major planned features and content in our 2010-2011 development road map, I felt that it was time to chart the long term future of Alganon in order to be in line with emerging trends as well as boost our subscription base.”
“In a pure F2P model, gamers have the opportunity to try different MMO games and to make informed spending decisions on those that they like and play frequently. Our robust Tribute Market micro-transaction system makes this possible and also provides an even playing field for all our gamers, regardless of how much money they spend. More importantly, gamers can play Alganon without having to spend a single penny in the Tribute Market. There is absolutely no nickel and diming going on; nor do you need to spend any money in order to progress normally.”
“Our community is best in class, are supportive of each other and have helped us immensely in charting the future of Alganon. We couldn't ask for a better class of gamers.”
In addition to making the client free to download with no purchase requirement, the upcoming 2.02 version brings a wealth of new features, enhancements and content. For a full list of what's new, check out our latest newsletter at http://www.qol.com/d...etter_0810.html
In our 2010-11 dev road map, we have a number of exciting new features, content and improvements planned and underway. These include the much anticipated and requested PvP feature as well as new character models, classes, quests, instances, mounts, additional companions and a much improved server model. We are also laying the ground work for localization so that we can host the game in other territories and in targeted languages.
Alganon is a traditional epic fantasy-based MMORPG that allows thousands of people to play together in a virtual world that features a rich history dominated by commanding deities, powerful weapons and armor, deadly magic, epic quests, ancient places to discover, the utilization of detailed trade skills, a unique skills study system and more. We haven't mentioned a time table for that. We'd like to get it done earlier in the day, as usual, but there are a few variables with our F2P switch we need to consider. We'll be sure to let you guys know before we pull the plug.
I hope you guys are prepared for the gold spammers that usually accompany F2P. I really hope the community stays decent but as is the demon that is F2P decent players are a needle in a haystack. Add a report button for spammers and just ungodly annoying people when found please.

If I was to say something I would say mail should either not be usable or limited to prevent gold farmers from taking their business. Mail system could be bought with Tribute (once bought you are taken off the limitation of not being able to use mail).
But then again that might not be favorable for players that want to try out the game...

I dont see how that will work unless you stop the transfer of Gold in all mail's (we do have a shared bank for alt's)but they can just Trade there gold with other's dont think there is a way to stop that.
It's not just the gold sellers that will have field day. There will be Bots all over the place, people's accounts trying to be hacked by them.
And a report button will just not cut it if a company like Blizzard cant get rid of them i am not sure how QOL will.
Banning 1 account is fine but when it runs into 1000's and peoples accounts being hacked thats another thing.

Actually I would like more insight into your PVP/PVE plans. I do not want an open PVP game. I left Aion for that very reason. If there is no toggle to disengage I would rather know now then later .

We're not releasing PvP for a while yet, so any details on it will wait until we do.

Actually I'd kinda like to know this too, I'm hoping that considering that there has been no PvP whatsoever thus far, that we wont wake up one day and have it forced upon us. Since its a ways off yet, I'm just crossing my fingers that it will be some separate zone completely irrelevant to PvE content and progress, that will not interfere with those who would rather not participate.

Once we have something to share, we will do so.
The fact is that PvP is coming and it won't have any effect on the game's PvE premise.

I just got a question, after I read this from the "newsletter":
" New in game quests, crafting recipes, epic gear, and new items and services in our ever expanding Tribute Market. "
About crafting recipes, epic gear and other items...will these be the best ones you will be able to get? Or is these items the same that you can get in-game? (Like spend 7 days or pay 10$). Will the Cash Shop items be "Over Powered"?
I just wonder, because I really looking foward into this game! Many F2P games out there have made a REALLY bad Cash Shop, or like "Pay To Win" style. I hope you will be able to solve theese kind of things with your Cash Shop, but still earn money of course!
I don't mean anything by this...I just wonder, that's all
(Sorry for bad english)
Thank you!
Cheers

We're taking careful precaution to not have this be a "pay to win" game. While we will have more and more available through the Tribute Market, we're balancing that with things in the game world itself in addition to meticulous planning.
Nice to hear! Looking more forward for tomorrow!
Keep low prices and you will earn more. Things for 50$ x 10 sold, or 5$ x 1000 sold. Very simple. But sad that the other companys did not see that. Another good thing is to sell hair color pots, fashion stuff with no stats etc (which you allready knew, I think). Easy money and it makes everyone happy!
Anyway, I hope you the best! I will spread the word about this game!

Best advice yet, as far as I'm concerned.
There's a reason casinos are filled with mostly nickel and penny slots instead of $5+ slots.
