Many people tout Alganon's friendly community for their reason to play? Where has this community gone? The forums lately are just venomous. I know the game isn't perfect but is this a reason to turn on your fellow gamers?

I noticed this too. I brought what I believed to be a perfectly valid and beneficial suggestion to these forums, next thing I know I'm being viciously attacked by someone going on about how QoL are anti-trolls. Well I hate to say it, but that person was behaving more like a troll than some of the worst ones I've seen in the more intense MMOs out there. He or she is using the pretense of defending the game to basically act offensively towards anyone who disagrees with his or her viewpoint.

I find it really disturbing, and I hope that people realise that being over-protective often ends up in becoming a proponent of the type of venomous attitude that we all want to see less of.

Generally speaking, our community is still better than most. Maybe it's because i'm used to other forums and online gaming communities, the posts I've seen on these forums are still warm and inviting. Most conflicts on the forums rarely end in a "omg learn2play" type attitude. But I believe whenever you have a group of people from all walks of life, there are bound to be disagreements.

Let's all have a wonderful Holiday and a happy new year.

There's always a few Frosted Flakes with the burnt black spots on it you know?

I still love our in game community and I'm always helping or being helped by complete strangers. Forums will always be a place for extremes. We just have to bear with the trolls because it will only get more commonplace as the playerbase (hopefully) expands.

See you all in game, and Merry Christmas!

Lol yeah I noticed a wee bit of "handbags at dawn" going on in a tanking thread I read.

Not really necessary, and as far as I am concerend, unwelcome.

Just another indication that some folks think that they can say anything they want because they are on the Interweb and not face to face with the other person.

Being polite and level headed costs us absolutley nothing, whether it's here or in RL.

Oh and Bah Humbug to you all ;-)

I'm confused now, how did Santa deliver my prezzies? The rig has no chimney at all!

All the best to the devs and players of Alganon from somewhere in the Atlantic.

Also, an enthusiastic defender giving advice isn't a troll.

My experience of several extremely vocal advocates on these forums demonstrates their willingness to use the same methods that trolls use - i.e. they will say things that they know will get a negative reaction. In essence that is a troll - someone who posts something that is intended to incite an undesirable reaction.

Also I really don't like it when supposed fans of the game are able to use discriminative or abusive labelling against those who aren't in the same "happy place". No-one should be allowed to label someone with an insulting phrase or word, and the fact that proponents of the game are continually permitted to do so is not favourable for the community as a whole.

You are right. We don't do enough to dampen the overreactions of the defenders when they go too far.

For me, some of it is agreeing the the message and ignoring the way it is expressed. Some of it is not wanting to make a mess worse by jumping in. And some of it is my reluctance to play forum cop, which is an uncomfortable role at best.

It was really much, much worse two months ago when anyone who posted anything even mildly negative got jumped all over by a whole crew. Think things are much better now, seems like some of those folks didn't even buy the game. Perhaps the issue is mostly like swordmage discusses - even the thuggiest folks out there don't seem that bad if you identify with them. Any way you slice it though there is still far less conflict here than the internet average.

That would be because the game is currently set at the best to not have the "Leet dudez" currently.

With the must be a subber to post on near all forums and the games super low population of course it wont be that bad. If this game had 10x the pop, which would still be godly low for an mmo, there would be a lot more "action" going on here.

And as time passes, regardless of getting more players into the game or not, the mood will continue to go downhill on average. At least till QoL pulls out some major patches, if they ever do that is.
