Something I've always found particularly annoying with online downloads of mmorpg's is that the first thing that it wants to do after your multi-gig download is to download multi-gigs of patch. This can be particularly important for players with only a certain allowance of download in a given timeframe.

Patching isn't such a problem once you get going since the downloads are typically small, but we gamers tend to upgrade rigs or die of sudden hard disk failures and have to reinstall everything from scratch. I've also myself balked at trying out new games after realising that downloading the game client then required me to download and patch a sequence of other files equal to or exceeding the size of the original download.

Will Algernon's download be periodically (e.g. after every patch) be reconstructed so that the latest patch is incorporated into the download? You're installed and right in?

During the beta process it has been our procedure to always replace the old installer with a fresh copy at each official patch point. Hot fixes and such don't always get new installers put up but I don't think we've ever gone a full patch cycle without updating it.

This is how MMO works this is not a board game, understand what an MMO is, if your comp isnt up to it then its your problem, most of the MMO gamers understand, and support the game company by testing these patches etc, a good MMO will be constantly patched if its to fix or to add new content etc, something you will have to get used to if you want to be a MMO player :P

err, no, the industry can and will change to what people find works for their income source - the players. games that don't change and require patch after patch after patch tend to go away. People want to play now, not play a game of chasing the "ok" button. Maybe they do at the moment because they have to.

I don't think income has anything to do with it either. And most MMOS patch a ton before and after a release. Only the most polished ever go without a patch or hotfix a week. (go and check WoW's release history)

Umm, if you'll actually read what JD said instead of attacking Frumbert, you'd see that JD said Alganon will be doing EXACTLY what Frumbert asked. Updating the installer after every patch. So no, this won't be like all the other MMOs that make people patch and patch and patch, and no he doesn't have to brace himself...This is the exact kind of hostility that needs to go away. We are all human beings here, and throwing snide comments at each other serves no purpose other than creating forum trolls. And I think we can all agree, we don't need any more of those around here. I'm saying this to myself as much as to everyone else. I've been guilty of this myself.
