What Got You Here?

A question I ask on most forums since some people like to take a walk down memory lane. I know some ppl are new to these games and don't actually have any back stories. But what was it that got you started on the road to these games. Guess I should start.
I played many games early on and enjoy alot but I would say the ones that really caught me and started me solidly on the rpg road was Shining Force for the genesis and Secret of Mana for the SNES. I started playing both around 1997(ish). From there I started on the internet soon after and while searching for rpg games I came across mmorpg's. I have never looked back since.
Of course there were many many others but these 2 games I put down to setting me on the rpg path fully.

... followed by rogue.
OMG I'm not the only person to remember rogue. And hack and larn. hehe
I started my path to MMOs at Risk with wooden pieces. Computer - rogue, many rts (hated the *Craft series so probably why i never played wow). 10 years with no computer and right back into age of empire again and dungeon seige. First MMO was eq2 - stuck on the Accursed Isle of Refuge for 7 days till I could get off the trial.

I guess I should admit that I was really in to Dragon Warrior on the NES and Final Fantasy...the first Final Fantasy on NES. The really old school stuff...yeah I was there.
Then I got into the Sony Play-Station, where I played Legend of the Dragoon. I've always been a Fantasy Buff, ever since I was little and read the book "King Author and the Knights of the Round Table".
I quit Play-Station after Resident Evil 3 and got into computer gaming. Oddly enough the game that got me playing online MMO's was Planet Side. Then I got into Everquest, Everquest 2, Lineage 2, DAOC, Shadow Bane, Ultima Online, Then I got into World of Warcraft, I put it off for about 6 months though, as I was playing EQ2 because it came out first. But eventually succumbed to my buddies and joined them in the Adventures what was called WoW.
Then when I finally got tired of WoW, I started playing F2P games, MU Online, 9 Dragons, Last Chaos, Rapplez, Arch Lord, yada yada Can't even remember them all really. Then I did Lord of the Rings Online, Because I was already a fan of Middle Earth from the Books. I must say, they did a good job with it IMHO.
Tabula Rasa, Guild Wars, Anarchy Online, Neo Cron, Neo Cron 2, Eve Online, Warhammer Online, are some other MMO's that I've just remembered that I've played.
I've been recently playing Runes of Magic and Battle Field Heros, oh and Farm Town on Face Book!
Anyway, that's my condensed "Spill".

now to the point...
I first got started on computers in the late 70's in school, bought my first computer in 81 or 82 (ti99/4a), and I think they pulled it from the market a few days later... on to a c64, c128, and after reading as much as I could about computers I eventually scraped up the parts to build my first xt (8086 I think, then 8088).. and so on and so forth.
I ran a bbs with my c64, and co-sysop'd a 6 line bbs (on pc's) after I got a bit more into building & networking them, thats where I first got into multiplayer games. (tradewars anyone?)
I really was hooked with the ti99/4a though. tape drive & text adventures ftw!
I could go on and on about my life with computers, but I'd bore you all to tears.

I'm happy that I'm not the only one here to remember what a BBS or a sysop was. Those were the days, eh? I had a 2400 baud modem that we used as a speakerphone at times.
I've used every speed from 300 up... ahh those were the days....
thank god for broadband.

a bit of time after that I worked at a Pizza Hut to save for the money to get a 386 computer so I could play the TSR D&D games and might and magic and Ultima. It was so magical for me to see what I had only imagined before in pen and paper from my D&D games. Been a hardcore fantasy game player ever since. Still read fantasy almost exclusively. Some Horror thrown in. Everquest was my first real MMO. Cant wait for Alganon.

From there I grew up into the RPGs of the NES and Super NES. I hit the Square series hard... any game by them was gold to me.
Right about the time AOL was in the midst of starting up their all out blitz with 3.5" and CDs I started getting into the 'chat room' games. I bring up my first ever MMO game in a MUD called Gemstone. Man, that game was sooo much fun and truelly addictive for me. Hell, I even ponied up the money to continue playing it even after the advent of EQ.
My first graphic based MMO came in SWG, and yes, I liked the game, bugs and all. I actually had the foresite (luck) to leave the game before the CU and NGE, so I'm not a bitter vet. From there, it was to FFXI, WOW, DDO, WOW, Vanguard, WOW, FFXI, WOW. I always end up back to that silly game. Something having to do with moving around and friends =p.
Hopefully, there is someone out that that has played one them MUDs from AOL days, and more specifically Gemstone!

I played Diablo 2 a lot ofcourse, and me and some friends from school were hyping WoW like hell, years before it came out. Making our own guild and so on.
Got into WoW beta, played and loved it. I guess what really got me into MMORPG's was the social thing. You could play with your friends, meet new people from different parts of the world and such. That just made everything so much more fun! So that's it basically. Since then I've just been looking for a new MMORPG to play that will give me the same feeling that WoW did. Exploring an unknown world, pvp, unknown encounters... meeting new friends, and arch enemies Just having fun!
To me... to take a freshly brewed cup of coffee and then sit back and play a really good MMORPG with some friends, talk ###### and explore the world is one of lifes better moments

It is around that time that I discovered EQ, and got my first taste of mmorgs. That was my game of choice for a very long time, but soon began to lose interest because so many of my online friends had moved on to new things. So I took a break from online games for a while, until my brother moved away and told me he was playing WoW. So I started playing as a means to "hang out" with him. I have been playing that ever since, but have been looking for a something new in the past month. I stumbled on Alganon completely by chance, and for the first time in a long while I feel excited about a game.
