Just a basic content question... will there be a class, or specialization within a class, that offers viable unarmed combat? It's hardly a deal-breaker, but it's something I find myself enjoying in a character when it's available. :)

Unarmed would be sweet, but I think if your fighting someone with a axe or sword. You will die, with no hands!

Depends on your skills vs their skills.

Unarmed is frankly required when you have any kind of melee. Bare-knuckle brawling is just too common a fighting type to ignore it or not include it. I'm not talking about asian style martial arts either. There's tons of times where the hero of the story is without a weapon and needs to defend himself, take the classic bar-room brawl as an example.

Unarmed combat does lead to another issue that's just not dealt with in MMOs in general and that's non-leathal damage. There are games that do kind of do this, but being able to specifically state "I'm not trying to kill them, just knock them out" would be a nice choice. You can even do that armed, just a bit more carefully.

Not that I'm suggesting real-world, Asian-influenced martial arts, per se, but in a melee context, there are people out there who could certainly hold their own, barehanded, against a guy with a sword. It could be just a matter of physical honing and considerable discipline, or you could accept that the spiritual and mystical aspects of the training are a factor.

Now build this into a fantasy MMORPG... ESPECIALLY one like Crusade, in which the gods influence our characters considerably, and I think that this is a reasonable character class.

I am asuming from what I have read into the inteviews that it will be possible to specialize in such forms of combat. Kind of like a specialization or school if you would like magic. Maybe a branch off the warrior class or guardian class.

I could also see this playing into the Deites ideas that they have( assuming that they will have more then Asheroth or Kujix to choose from). Perhaps giving them super human abilites in a fight that they could use when they in a respected area where their detiy is the most powerful.

I think it would be cool to see not like UNARMED as a major like war fighting ability, but as a side thing, Where you can get into fights with NPCs or PCs in the tavern and nock them out steal things, instead of having to use your huge flaming sword of death.

Hey I wanted to be a Sari monk back in the day lol

Unarmed combat is definitely something I'd like to see as a viable primary specialisation, not just as a backup when you get disarmed.

I'm tempted to suggest an assassin type class ala guild wars, but something like an updated Horizons monk might be better ;)

I've always loved the unarmed classes/skills in games past also. I ran a Dojo on SWG Radiant galaxy. I would like to see it a viable combat skillset and as mentioned, I would LOVE to see non-lethal combat options, but that's somewhat of a polish-later-on issue for me.

Good topic.

Good topic idd, I like the idea of unarmed as a side thing in battle.... but unarmed as major combat abbility would be cool too.

I can't see why any dev would rule out having unarmed as a combat style. The more styles you add, the more variety you add to players and choices they have. Which more often than not is a good thing.

Once again cementing my choices of Kujix and Shadow both. Thanks for the info Kabooki!

I hope the Opposing side will also have an unarmed combat to them. My wife doesnt like to play evil races/sides so I kinda have to play on the good side.

Considering the age of the post, a lot might have changed since then.
